MakerHouse Rebrand

Worked as the sole designer with clients at the combined maker space and shared living environment to create a more modern branding guideline suited to the space. Met with clients to discuss the ideals they have for the community and developed various logo concepts. Upon final revisions, drafted a set of brand guidelines to accommodate the new aesthetics.

  • MakerHouse Previous Logo

    Before

The original MakerHouse logo lacked contrast and was overall unpolished. The original did not properly represent the concepts and sense of community that defines the space and was overall cluttered.

  • Rebranded MakerHouse Logo

    After

The rebranded MakerHouse logo includes a modern typeface and chosen brand color. The overall shape represents the spirit of a maker space, while the negative space reflects the shared living community house aspect.

MakerHouse is about creative community.

In discussions with the clients at MakerHouse it became clear that this rebrand was an important way for the members to share in a creative passion. They wanted a logo that they could create with, be it 3D printed or laser engraved it needed certain considerations beyond a simple accent to their website. Through three iterations and meetings this simple yet effective logo was developed and selected. It evokes the traditional steel industry culture of their home base in Pittsburgh, PA while at the same time remaining minimalist and reminiscent of a tech-startup. The design works in seamlessly with the chosen Barlow font face to bring balance while remaining impactful. Color palette was chosen by the house members and refined / expanded on by Julia Price.
